Feeling Like You’re Back at Square One?
Consider this…
Eating disorder recovery isn’t a straight line. There are ups, downs, and moments where it feels like you’re right back where you started. But when things feel really hard—even if you relapse—you’re not back at square one.
When you’re struggling, ask yourself these questions…
1. Are you being harder on yourself than you would be on a friend in the same situation?
2. Can you recognize any small ways you’re showing up for yourself, even if it feels insignificant?
3. Do you have more awareness of your thoughts and behaviors than you did before?
4. Have you challenged yourself in any way—big or small—since starting recovery?
5. Are you still seeking support, even when it’s difficult?
6. Can you remember a time when these struggles felt even harder than they do now?
7. What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself in this process?
Remember This
Relapse or setbacks don’t erase progress. Even if you’re struggling today, every step you’ve taken so far in recovery counts!
Instead of focusing on what feels “wrong,” try looking for signs of how far you’ve come.
You’re doing better than you think.
